What Is AdBlue

AdBlue is the licensed trademark of the German Automotive Industry Organisation, the VDA or Verband Der Automobilindustrie. AdBlue is a derivative of ammonia, it is licensed under the name AdBlue, which means the liquid meets a strict specification and has been manufactured, handled, and stored under controlled conditions. The name AdBlue is now recognised worldwide and diesel vehicle owners associate the name AdBlue as a quality product that helps improve vehicle efficiency.

AdBlue is a liquid solution that alters and transforms the harmful Oxides of Nitrogen or NOx emissions produced by diesel vehicles into water vapour and nitrogen making the emissions harmless. It is used in vehicles, equipped with Selective Catalytic Reduction also known as SCR technology to comply with the Euro emissions standards.

AdBlue is NOT an additive for fuel, NEVER put AdBlue into your fuel tank as this could have disastrous results, although AdBlue is a non-toxic and generally non-hazardous liquid it is still a chemical and is corrosive and should be treated with due care and attention, It is also a pollutant and therefore should never be allowed into watercourses. It has a slight hint of Blue when seen in bulk containers such as IBC’s but looks more like water when being poured or pumped. AdBlue has a smell like ammonia with good reason It contains demineralized water and urea (32.5%), although the smell with modern AdBlue is not as strong as it used to be due to modern production techniques.

AdBlue is only used in diesel powered vehicles and only in diesel vehicles with modern SCR systems (Selective Catalytic Reduction). So newly registered vehicles in the UK from October 2006 onwards, this includes HGV vehicles and buses, as well as more recently plant machinery, tractors, vans and now for almost all cars.

Vehicle emissions is a growing worldwide concern, by using AdBlue in modern diesel vehicles including plant machinery and agricultural vehicles such as tractors we are helping ensure cleaner emissions and therefore helping our environment

Benefits of Using AdBlue

One of the main benefits of using AdBlue is that it drastically reduces the harmful NOx emissions of Nitrogen Oxide produced from diesel engine vehicles, according to manufacturers by up to 90%. This helps reduce the negative impact that your company has on the environment allowing you to advertise your company as an eco-friendly provider.

As an added benefit AdBlue users can expect to see an increase in mpg fuel efficiency of around 5%.
